Results and Impact
The bioFru project aims to generate scientifically grounded results with direct application in fruit production. The expected outcomes will contribute to the improvement of cultivation technologies, plant resilience, and the overall competitiveness of the sector.
Evidence-Based Guidelines
Based on the research results, evidence-based guidelines will be developed for the application of biostimulants in nursery production and commercial cherry and strawberry orchards. These guidelines will include recommendations on optimal timing and dosage, aimed at improving growth, stress resilience, and fruit quality.
Improving Growth and Resilience
Evidence-based guidelines will be established using research data on the impact of biostimulants on vegetative growth, grafting success, physiological plant traits, and the fruit quality of cherries and strawberries. A particular focus will be placed on their role in mitigating the negative effects of abiotic stresses, such as drought, high temperatures, and frost. Based on the findings, specific recommendations will be defined for the optimal application of biostimulants in both nursery management and commercial production.
Enhancing Quality and Yield
The application of biostimulants is focused on increasing yields and improving fruit quality by achieving higher dry matter content, optimal sugar-to-acid ratios, and elevated levels of bioactive compounds. This approach is expected to ensure more stable and uniform production while increasing the overall market value of the fruit.
Sustainability and Sector Competitiveness
The project contributes to the development of a more sustainable and resilient fruit sector in Croatia and the European Union. Application of the results may reduce the negative effects of stress factors, improve economic viability, and strengthen the position of domestic production.
